An Unfolding Life...
Director’s Biographical Notes

Will degrees and titles tell you who I am? How could they? While growing up as a farm boy, to living in cities like Washington, D.C., Seattle and Denver, I have been driven by a desire to communicate the beauty of Christ and His story, to plunge into the Divine depths, generously distributed in every great religious tradition.

Since 1980, I have been practicing a contemplative life while living fully in the world. What lives inside of each of us, what stirs our hearts, is what fascinates me. I seldom tire of exploring the awe-filled and transforming intersection of our lives and Christ’s.
In this encounter of agony and ecstasy, a sublime and profound meaning appears.

Retreats are opportuntities to reinvest in our truer, deeper selves and to become passionately alive. To this ministry, I bring life experiences as a pastor, teacher, peace activist, laborer, farmer, priest, and husband. While using music, art, poetry, drama, and sacred silence, I yearn to explore your questions and answers that reveal the hidden Presence, and the disguised Christ.

Len Schreiner, M.Div. is an Ecumenical Catholic priest, musician, writer, and husband with 25 years experience in pastoral ministry and spiritual direction. His home is in Crestone, Colorado a mountain town nestled up against the Sangre de Cristo Mountains

Retreat Topics

Climbing the Mountain with Thomas Merton: Using his writings to explore an understanding of the human person, of prayer, and social commitment. A contemplative journaling and meditation process.

Church / Small Group Retreats
A preached retreat often scheduled for evening sessions during an ordinary week, or over a weekend which includes exploring key New Testament teachings, an experience of Christ-centered conversational prayer, and heart-centered live music. Using everyday language, stories and insights I explore various Gospel themes: For example:
I. The Wisdom Sayings of Jesus
II. Unveiling the Kingdom of God
III. Discipleship for the 21st Century
IV. Pain, Forgiveness and Reconciliation
This reteat may be tailored to your needs or setting

Men's Retreats: "What's In A Man's Heart"
Spiritually, most men live solitary lives within the walls of their own hearts. Meanwhile they wait to be invited into a deeper conversation of faith, honesty, and hopefulness. A weekend experience focused on core issues in a man's everyday experience including: Deep masculinity, power and weakness, relationships with women, work and addiction, discipleship, prayer, marriage and communication, our desires and demons, violence to ourselves. I've been leading men's retreats since the early 1990's.

Concert: Hearing the Heart of Jesus
I use my own experiences of loss and faith, key Gospel passages, interpreted music and simple drama, to re-ignite a realization of the many ways we consciously become a new creation, in an evolving identity that is at once Christ and myself. Normally performed in a sanctuary, church or sacred space. Cost: donation from the audience

Writing the Gospel Within:
A conscious exercise in transposing the Gospel life and text already echoing within us, can radically renew our faith and love for Christ, and life itself. By probing our own questions, desires and dreams with journaling, meditation and music, we are able to pen a gospel to live deeply into for one year. (A weekend experience)

The Many Faces of Jesus :
Ironically in a world of a million media images we've lost touch with sacred images in art, and the poetic imagination of our minds. How is His life disguised yet already present in ours? By careful, free-flowing examination of Christic portraits from the Masters to contemporary artists, we can regain a heart-centered relationship to the presence and person of Christ innate to each of us. (one day / weekend)

•A Retreat With Francis Of Assisi
A weekend of reflection, prayer and song inspred by “I Francis”, a first person re-telling of Francis’ journey, thoughts, and Christ-centered spirituality, passion and love for all created things. In four parts:
I. Silencing the soul
II. The Cosmic Dance of Creation
III. The Cross and Sacred Surrender
IV. God’s Fool Reborn in Christ
Presentations, Franciscan music, Periods of Silence,
Dialogue, Morning and Evening Prayer

•Contemplative Retreats: These are directed retreats enriched with reflective presentations, live music, poetry, guided meditation, body prayer, and sacred silence. Guided into silence, we "find God in our own being which is the mirror of God." (Merton ) God is always moving through the door and windows of our desires, experiences and relationships. We find our center in the Divine, through relaxed contemplative prayer. I have a broad knowledge of Christian spiritualities and other traditions; am able to guide others from beginners to the more advanced.

Other workshop and retreat topics probe Christian social teachings, joyful simplicity, the inner meaning of the Cross, the Cosmic Christ, Christian nonviolence and peacemaking
